Share 14 October 2011 | By: Seth Shafer The Mega Moolah progressive jackpot (one of the more popular online jackpots) has just been hit, awarding one lucky slots player a payday of $3.84 million. The winner’s name or nationality hasn’t yet been announced so no news yet there, but once the big win is confirmed and verified the winner will receive the entire$3.84 million in one lump sum payment. It’s the tenth time that Mega Moolah has made a lucky slots online player a millionaire. The biggest jackpot hit on the game was over $6 million, with four others (including this one) for between $3 million to $6 million, and all the others for less than $3 million. Mega Moolah (which can be found at All Slots Casino) resets at $1 million, but should start climbing rapidly once again, as it’s one of the more popular progressives and can be played via a variety of mobile devices as well as through the normal downloadable client. With Mega Moolah hit, the next big popular progressive for slots players to take aim at is Beach Life at Europa Casino, which is currently sitting at about $3.6 million. Progessive slots games are just as popular online as they are at brick-and-mortar casinos, offering players the chance to become an instant millionaire with one spin of the reels.

Atlantic City Gambling Revenue Continues Slide
28 April 2012 | By: Seth Shafer Despite several positive factors working in its favor — including unseasonably warm weather and the opening of the new Revel casino — the casinos that call Atlantic City home continued to struggle in March, with gambling revenues slipping by 5% in March as compared to 2011. Revenue from the slots and table games at the 12 casinos in Atlantic City fell 5 percent to $266 million, compared to $281 million a year ago, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported. Slot revenue dipped 3 percent to $191 million, while profits from table games plummeted 11 percent to $75 million. Hopes had been high that the opening of the new $2.4 billion Revel casino — the first new AC casino to open up in many years — would jump-start a resurgence in visitor traffic and gamblng revenue in the area but it failed to have the hoped for effect, although the real impact of Revel won’t be seen until April figures are released. Revel held three days of soft-opening play in late March before its official opening April 2, with the dress rehearsal of sorts producing $163,000 in gambling revenue. Revels first full month of revenue will be reflected in Aprils results. Warm weather and two extra weekend days weren’t enough to halt the slide in revnues that has continued unabated for several years. Gambling revenues have steadily dropped in Atlantic City since their peak in 2006, as increased competition from neighboring states and a struggling US economy has left the area struggling mightily when it comes to gambling. With two extra weekend days and the fabulous weather, Im really disappointed that the market had a decline, said Tony Rodio, president and chief executive officer of Tropicana Casino and Resort. Its the regional competition and the economy. Its extremely disappointing.” Trump Taj Mahal was one of the few bright spots, with revenues up 17% for the month, while the Tropicana, Borgata, and Golden Nugget Atlantic City also recorded small gains. Resorts Casino Hotel and the Atlantic Club Casino were the big losers for March, with revenues at each plummeting more than 25%.

Top 5 Things to do in Vegas NOT in a Casino
3 May 2012 | By: Seth Shafer Las Vegas obviously offers plenty for gamblers from around the world to enjoy but there are also a lot of great sights to see in the city away from the Strip that have nothing to do with doubling down or hitting your point at the craps tables. Casinos in Las Vegas have worked hard to diversify their entertainment and shopping options so that they don’t rely as heavily on gambling dollars for their profits each quarter but there are also plenty of great sightseeing options and trips available outside the air-conditioned environs of the mega casinos. Below you’ll find some of the most popular options when it comes to getting away from the slots and seeing a different slice of Vegas: Dig This: If you’ve ever dreamed of playing with big-boy toys such as enormous bulldozers and excavators, you can realize that dream at Dig This, which is located about 4 miles outside the city. The “Heavy Equipment Playground” provides exactly that, with the chance to not dig up and destroy all sorts of dirt with huge excavators and bulldozers but you can also shoot machine guns, rifles, and hand guns on their firing range. Red Rock Canyon: Located about 15 miles outside the city, Red Rock Canyon offers a scenic 13 mile drive for those who prefer the safety and comfort of their car as well as numerous hiking trails for those who prefer to get out and about in nature. Make sure you take into account the desert heat by dressing appropriately and bringing water, with the views at sunrise and sunset particularly spectacular. Richard Petty Driving Experience: Get behind the wheel of a real race car and drive a few laps at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with real Nascar stock cars giving you an up close and person taste of the racing life. If you’re too scared to take the wheel yourself you can ride along with a professional driver who’ll whip you around the track at dizzying speeds. Pinball Hall of Fame: Show off your pinball wizardry on more than 250 classic pinball machines, all in working order and available to play. Unlike most museums where you can look but never touch, this is a hands-on experience with old and new pinball machines alike to not just admire but to play yourself. Grand Canyon: The Grand Canyon isn’t exactly in Las Vegas but a wide range of tours will handle all the logistics of getting you there — including helicopter and plane tours — to enjoy one of the natural wonders of the world.

Top 5 Las Vegas Poker Rooms
18 April 2012 | By: Seth Shafer While Las Vegas may have been surpassed by Macau as far as total gambling dollars taken in each year it remains the undisputed king of the poker world, with many of the top poker rooms in the entire world found in Sin City. Many top poker pros call Vegas home or maintain a home there, with big cash games running year-round and the World Series of Poker (a festival of nearly 60 poker tournaments) drawing tens of thousands of additional poker players and fans each and every summer. You’ll have plenty of Las Vegas poker rooms to choose from if you make the trek to Las Vegas youself but visiting one of the top poker rooms below means you’ll be guaranteed to get off to the right foot. The Venetian: The Venetian is one of the few Vegas poker rooms to make a name for itself with tournament players and cash game specialists alike, running the popular Deep Stack series of tournaments periodically throughout the year and one of the busier rooms in town when it comes to low and midstakes cash games. The Bellagio: The Bellagio has lost a little of its poker luster with the emergence of Aria’s poker room as a high stakes haven but it’s still one of the busier rooms in town, especially at midstakes and up as far as high rollers looking to take on some of the world’s top poker players with plenty of cash at stake. Aria: Aria is the newest entry in the Vegas poker scene and currently home to some of the biggest cash games in town, vying with The Bellagio for the right to call itself “the” poker room in town for high stakes action. The Wynn: The Wynn hasn’t quite managed to duplicate The Bellagio’s success when it comes to poker but it still has plenty of action running any time of the day or night, including a variety of daily tournament as well as cash games to choose from. Caesars Palace: Caesars has slipped a bit on the poker popularity front (with many players shifting their play over to the Venetian) but it’s still one of the larger and busier poker rooms in town, with a large dedicated tournament room adjacent to the cash game area that runs a wide range of daily tournaments.

Sands Opens Newest Casino in Macau
13 April 2012 | By: Seth Shafer Sheldon Adelson has opened yet another casino in Macau via his Sands China subsidiary, with the new $4.4 billion Sands Cotai Central casino opening its doors to become the 35th casino in Macau. Macau is now by far the world’s largest gambling market — surpassing Las Vegas back in 2006 — and the Sands Cotai Central is not just the latest Macau casino to open but will be the newest arrival for quite some time, as government approval and construction time means that it will be a least 2015 before a newer casino is opened in Macau. Macau’s growth as a gambling center has been meteoric, with revenue growth of 27% in the first three months of 2012 that followed up an amazing surge of 42% growth in 2011; Macau’s gambling haul of $33.5 billion in 2011 was more than five times the amount earned by Las Vegas Strip casinos. China continues to fuel the gambling boom in Macau, with high stakes baccarat players flocking to the area now that a nearby gambling alternative is open to them, instead of being forced to make a long trip to Vegas or other gambling centers as was the case in the past. Sands’ rivals in Macau (which include other Las Vegas-based gambling giants such as Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts International) are also waiting for government approval for projects they’re planning for the Cotai Strip. All three companies may be based in Vegas but an outsized portion of their revenues and profits now come from their operations in Macau, Singapore, and other international markets. Sands’ newest casino in Macau is expected to benefit from Sands is expected to benefit from growing numbers of tourists in Macau drawn to shopping and other non-gambling attractions at Cotai’s resorts, with new transportation links making it easier to travel across from mainland China. The opening of the casino had been delayed several times, with the global recession and credit crunch halting the project several times as well as delays related to government restrictions on the amount of foreign workers that could be used during construction.

Momentum Grows for Online Gambling in the US
2 April 2012 | By: Seth Shafer Several US states are taking a hard look at legalizing online poker and casino sites for residents, with the primary lure being the possibility of propping up sagging state budgets with millions of dollars in new tax revenues. In 2011 the District of Columbia became the first area to pass legislation that could allow it to offer online casino and poker sites to residents; delays and questions have plagued the initiative, however, with the possibility that the entire endeavor may be scrapped before ever seeing the light of day. That hasn’t stopped legislators in Ney Jersey, California, and Nevada from pursuing very similar legislation, with a recent ruling by the US Department of Justice clarifying the scope of the Wire Act to apply only to sportsbetting — and not to other activites such as online poker or online lotto ticket sales — adding more fuel to the fire. With many US states still struggling with high unemployment and dipping property values, a pitch for online gambling is much more receptive to voters’ ears than in the past. The same greater receptivity to gambling in general has seen states such as Massachusetts vote to add brick-and-mortar casinos for the very first time, while several other states have dramatically expanded their gambling options. As far as the potential money at stake from legalizing online gambling in the US, estimates vary widely depending on which side of the debate you fall on. Industry groups and pro-gambling lobbyists peg the potential tax revenues as high as $10 billion per year for the US gambling market, but studies that individual states have done have produced much smaller figures, with the state of Iowa releasing a study that shows it could collect around $5-$15 million a year while California projects it could make as much as $250 million.

“All In” Poker Movie Hits the Theaters
24 March 2012 | By: Seth Shafer The new poker movie “All In: The Poker Movie” hit movie theaters last week, with the film taking a close look at not just the booming poker industry in the US but also the impact of the US government’s actions on Black Friday in April 2011 when it moved to block many of the world’s top online poker sites. Directed by Douglas Tirola and produced by 4th Row Films, the movie tackles the big task of telling the story of poker in America, touching on different facets of the game and how it has evolved during its 200 years or so of being played in the US. While the entire history of poker in the US is touched upon, the primary focus of the film is the last decade or so of poker, which has been a particularly tumultuous time with the poker boom of the early to mid 2000s followed by the efforts of the US government to prevent US citizens from playing at online poker sites. “All In” doesn’t necessarily have an agenda behind it but it does go to great lengths to point out the ironic fact that a game so uniquely American — with millions of US citizens avidly playing poer every year — would become a target for government authorities who enacted laws to take the decision over whether or not to play online poker out of the hands of millions of residents. Many of poker’s top pros are interviewed and appear in the film (including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Greg Raymer, and Mike Sexton just to name a few) as well as industry insiders and executives as well as movie stars and entertainers such as Matt Damon and Kenny Rogers. The movie also touches on the Full Tilt debacle, although some poker players and fans may be disappointed to see that the company is largely spared and only mentioned in passing in connection to Black Friday, as the film was in post-production when Black Friday occured and wrapped up long before the more sordid Full Tilt details came to light. All in all, “All In” should appeal to casual and hardcore poker fans alike, although much of it won’t be new to serious poker fans. The film provides a brisk, well-paced look at the unique role poker plays in the US as well as some of the major changes that have occured over the last decade.

Atlantic City Casino Slump Continues
9 March 2012 | By: Seth Shafer Atlantic City casinos are still struggling to find any glimmers of hope as monthly revenues slid once again in February, dipping nearly 6% compared to the same period in 2011. It’s been a protracted steady decline for Atlantic City’s casino operators, with revenue declining for more than five years since a peak in 2006. Atlantic City has struggled more than other gambling destinations such as Las Vegas (which has seen visitor traffic and spending gradually mending since the latest recession in the US) as many of its casino properties are older and dated, with fewer entertainment and shopping options such as are found in Vegas. Overall gambling revenue in February in Atlantic City was down 5.9%, with slot machine revenue down 4.2% and table game revenue off 10.3%. For the first two months of the year, revenues were down 6.6% from the same period in 2011. Eight of the 11 casinos saw their revenue decline, led by The Atlantic Club which saw revenue plummet by 29% to $8.3 million. The Tropicana Casino and Resort didn’t fare too much better with revenue sliding 27%, to $14.5 million, while Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino was down 22% to $9 million. As far as the gainers, the three in the positive column were led by The Golden Nugget Atlantic City, where revenues were up 18%. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa booked a 7% gain while Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City was up 4% percent. Much of Atlantic City’s woes are directly related to the fastest growing casino market in the US in Pennsylvania, where newer casinos and an expansion of the games offered continues to siphon away more and more visitors that previously headed to Atlantic City. Pennsylvania’s gambling revenues grew 22% in 2011 to $3 billion, with the state very likely to pass Atlantic City in 2012 to become the US’ second largest gambling market behind Las Vegas.

Online Poker Matches-Why Bet on Poker on the Net?
Hundreds of thousands of people are playing poker on line. New web poker internet websites are cropping up every day. You might have played poker at property, watched it on television, or even tried your hand at a gambling establishment once or twice. Still, you may be wondering, is on line poker correct for you personally? What are the plusses of internet poker? 1. Its Convenient. If you wager on poker on the internet, you are able to often have a game. Whether it can be late afternoon or three in the morning, you can find open poker tables waiting for you personally online. Most poker web-sites are open around the clock (with the occasional brief shutdown for a few hours for scheduled web site maintenance). This makes net poker ideal for those of us with 9 to five jobs who cannot obtain to the casino as typically as wed like, or people who have children to watch or other responsibilities that prohibit them from spending hours at a gambling den. Be careful, though. The ease of acquiring web based and playing makes it easy to forget that this can be a genuine gambling establishment betting for true money. Dont let poker become just an additional video game. 2. It is Accessible. If you live in the United States, unless you are in one of the handful of states in which casinos are legal, or you reside near an Indian reservation, going to a gambling den to bet on poker can entail fairly a trip. Theres no reason not to play online instead. The games and their rules are all of the same and in reality, because poker web sites are not limited by the number of dealers or tables they can physically offer, youre likely to acquire a seat faster than at a gambling den. Three. Theyve Your Game. No matter if it can be .25/.50 Omaha Hi/Low, 30/60 7 Card Stud, or two thousand buy-in No Limit Holdem, most poker websites have just the game and just the limits, that you want. They also offer tournaments of varying sizes and buy-ins every day. Your average gambling den cant say that. 4. Promotions. Nowadays most on line sites offer bonuses of extra money in your account whenever you make a deposit. You wont obtain any bonuses for buying chips at a casino! Also, several internet sites now present player points, awarded for numerous play, which may be exchanged for tournament entries or poker merchandise. 5. Satellites. A Satellite is often a modest buy-in poker tournament where the winner or winners earns a buy-in to a larger tournament. Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 WSOP champion, won his seat in the Primary Event by playing satellites on the web, beginning with only forty dollars! Many web-based poker web-sites, particularly the bigger ones, offer you numerous opportunities to satellite win your way into main poker events for a relatively small buy-in. Six. Fun. Like all styles of poker, internet poker is wonderful entertainment. As lengthy as you stay within your limits, do not bet a lot more than you are able to afford to lose and accept the occasional bad beat as part of the casino game, you are guaranteed to have a great time wagering poker on the web.
